I have an idea, and I want to run it past you guys before I pursue it. I have a digital ocean account and I want to use that to build an auto scaling platform. I was thinking of having a small node monitoring all the other nodes(which are behind a load balancer) and when the server load average across all the servers reaches a certain threshold spins up another machine... It would work the same way when there is not much of a load on the network to scale back down.
First off, what's getting me is all of the web servers need to be running the same version of my application when they spin up.
Second off, when I update my application, all running servers need to update as well.
Third thing, all of the web servers need to be configured and launched with my web application installed within 5 minutes of the digital ocean api call.
Any suggestions?

I have raid 10 soft on my ubuntu install but want to be alerted when a drive fails. I added my email to mdadm and tried a test message but it didn't send. And I wasn't sure if mdadm would actively monitor and send me an email as soon as a drive fails.
If anyone has any suggestions, please tell me.
I've run into another problem with the IPMI on my dedi. For several days it was working fine (after figuring out the virtual media problem), but yesterday the virtual KVM started failing regularly with this java exception:
com.serverengines.rdr.BadIOException: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
This exception is thrown 99% of the time when I ask it to reboot, which is really annoying because I'm trying to reinstall and when it crashes it loses my virtual media setting.
Has anybody ever run into this problem before? Googling hasn't revealed anything useful for this problem so far...

Anyone else get the email about SolusVM 2.0? It looks VERY nice compared to the current interface. I was actually in the middle of looking at other options but I may wait to see if they actually produce it. They've been talking about 2.0 for 3 years now.
Just wondering as it crossed my mind that I hate dealing with managing my own WHMCS (installing, updates, security, troubleshooting, etc)... and I would pay a few dollars a month to not worry about it.

I have a small vps 512MB with 64mb swap with Virtualmin installed and a single WP site. Webmin and bind keep going down on this server. The main memory only shows around 250mb used, but the swap file always shows 64mb used.
Any suggestions to keep Webmin up and make the VPS use the main memory available and not the swap file?

(B) 5min Statuscake FREE tier - PING , HTTP(s), custom TCP
I like that StatusCake has Pushbullet notifications; so already using that for HTTP(s) sites.
However, I was thinking I should use (A) for network-uptime notifications for hosts doing other availability-sensitive things like remote syslog. (I can probably hack up a custom hook to pushbullet later using (A)'s webhooks)
Is ICMP Ping a sensible choice for external network uptime monitoring?
Or does someone here do something crazy like run a tiny TCP server daemon on a high unprivileged port just to send TCP ACKs.
(SSH tcp port wouldn't work, since I'm in the process of putting ssh access behind an iptables whitelist)
Is there something like that out there? Is a userspace netcat LISTEN process safe to run?
If I had the ability to combine/cascade PING and TCP tests, which would be the order of testing? TCP, then PING? or other way around?

Has anyone ever tried installing Fedora Server 21 from OVHs rescue system? I'm trying to do so since 3 hours now and I don't have any success at all. According to some reaaaally old posts you can just grab the "fedora-release-.rpm" and "fedora-repos-.rpm", install them with yum/rpm by using the --installroot/--root parameter, install "yum" with localinstall, chroot into that newly built "ultra-minimal-base-system", install some packages, install Grub, mess around in some files and that's it!
But I struggled with so many things already, starting from outdated yum/rpm versions (remember, OVHs rescue system is Debian based...), strange Makefile scripts when I tried to compile RPM for myself, weird Yum file compression errors, weird XML errors with Yum, missing Python libraries, permission errors, yum PKI errors, and so on... It get's really frustrating to debug errors like "bad magic". As soon as I fix one issue, another one pops up. Am I just doing it the ultra-stupid way or is there any easy solution for that?
And no, KVM-over-IP and OVH-Installer aren't a proper solution. The first thing costs me 30€ per installation, the second thingy is ultra-stupid in regards of partitioning.

Got a VPS from a provider here and setup squid on it. I've tried using Google DNS servers and not and every time I go to Google.com it loads up google.de. Looks like the IP is being incorrectly detected. Visiting whatismyipaddress.com shows the IP as US based. Anyone got a fix or know why this is happening? Thanks.

So this day I ordered a Dedibox SC gen2 and want to use it as a FTP server to backup my own data. And the introduce says that it has 500GB SSHD.
But when I successfully installed WS2012 via joodle.nl's guide and try to partition the disk by DiskGenius, the disk seems like 1TB:
So I called them via Skype and the service agent tell me to open a ticket. Your website said that SC gen2 has a 500GB SSHD, but I've spotted that this server has a 1TB drive. Why I got a 1TB drive rather than 500GB? Is it still a SSHD or normal HDD?

When I ran out of Ideas, I used my scraper script to scrape top sites from Alexa, changed .com/net/org etc with a .science and bulk registered the rest.
Along with regular names, it seems I have registered a LOT of trademarked domains. Such as visa, netflix, paypal, hotmail, newegg, comcast etc. The list goes on.

One guy signed up on my webhosting and made a purchase of 2.50 $ for one month of shared hosting. Paid using paypal.
After a few hours he sent me a paypal payment request for 300$. Now this request shows in my paypal account as pending.

Anyone providing any DDOS protected VPS? Im only interested in providers that are highly reputable and recommended in this community. Something highly reliable for production applications.
Along the lines of: 2gb Ram, 1tb bandwidth, 10GB SSD. US based would be good but dont really mind elsewhere (flick me an IP for testing/pinging as well).

I just ban of Wable ... because one of my vps received a DDOS attack ... the trouble is that I lost all data on my other servers ..y have not let me back.
Even a notice given to me ... just me ban applied to my account
need 4 vps with 512mb of ram and good connection to South America
I have only servers for small communities ts3 ..
if anyone knows or can help me with this would be eternally grateful ..

From the details posted it would seem that the VPS customers are all that is being moved to Xfuse, the GVH "brand" is not and will remain with Jonny.
All existing deals will be honoured for a period of time.

Hi there, How the title already describes, I'm looking for a cheap (<= 10$) VPS in a German DC with SSD, KVM. Here are the preferred specs:
2 vCores of a nice CPU (like an E5)
512MB - 1GB RAM
10GB SSD (raid10 would be nice)
500GB traffic @ 1GBit, stable 100MBit would be good as well
KVM
<= 10$
Paid monthly
Free trial for a day or some more would be great
Provider must be reliable (means good uptime and support which is helpful) cauz I'm not able to monitor the server the hole day and manage it myself when it's down or something and write to the support until they even recognize it.
I wanna use it to host my blog. I'm currently with RamNode and pretty satisfied, but due to many of my visitors come from Germany (blog posts are mostly in German as well) and the maybe a bit weak network to US in NL, I would be interested if there's a nice offer in DE as well. :)
Pls don't recommend me Vultr, I tested them some time and.. Well, not bad but there are better ones.

Anyone else get the email about SolusVM 2.0? It looks VERY nice compared to the current interface. I was actually in the middle of looking at other options but I may wait to see if they actually produce it. They've been talking about 2.0 for 3 years now.
