-2-5 GB HDD . Good IO -70 GB of BW. -1 x IPV4 . Don't care where the IP is from as long as the content is delivered from SP with latency of around less than 45 msec to Buenos Aires. -256 MB OVZ.

No control Panel but something like solus to do reinstalls.

No managed services as our sysadmin will take care.

Willing to pay as little as possible as we won't make much use of the box.

how to stream 1080p videos from a VPS

Hello,

a friend of mine uses his VPS to download 1080p videos and later stream it to his iPhone/iPad. The speed between him and the VPS reaches about 1,3MB/s (more isn't possible with his connection), but I think this should be sufficient for streaming. He gets the files over apache2 and streams it with vlc media player. But after a few minutes the movie always starts lagging, the results are the same when he uses vlc on his computer. So I don't think that it's a CPU speed issue with his iPhone/iPad. So I suspect that apache2 isn't optimized or maybe there is a better protocol for streaming media?

Hello. I host a teamspeak server for a community, at peak times 200+ users. So far i've tested DDoS protection provided by staminus, voxility and blacklotus through resellers. Right now I'm using blacklotus/ramnode. So far it works well, doesn't drop all connections when attacked. But i know 20Gbps/20Mpps(guy answering a ticket made a mistake) won't be enough after a while. Voxility(BuyVM) dropped all connections, it the attack was big enough, also it had issues with constant 1-5% packetloss. Staminus about the same as blacklotus, but vps provider nuked our vps constantly since staminus leaked alot of the attacks. So here I am looking for the next vps I'll be using for teamspeak when i get nulled on ramnode. Any kind of info how attacks are handled is appreciated.

Now if i go though a VPN and get a new IP it does come up, which to me seems like they have blocked me from their support chat. Windows recovery problem

Hi,

I just wondered if anyone knows how to remove the windows recovery partition on windows 8.1. diskpart won't let me, nor will disk management or creating a recovery usb drive (no option to delete partition at the end). If I boot to a usb drive and use disk part there then it lets me delete it but then windows errors and won't boot. Does anyone know how to successfully remove the dam thing, my netbook only has a 32gb emmc and the recovery is taking up 10gb, when I could just be using a usb drive for that...

So I was an idiot and got a **** VPS, What can I do with it.

I bought a vps from a company I won't name but is well known around here for being pretty bad, I didn't know that at the time though.

I paid 2.99 for a year of VPS (Which I should have known had a catch) but I can only use 2.5% of the cpu, if I use more for over 15 minutes, I'm suspended which has already happened once. The only good thing is I have unlimited bandwidth.

So my question is what can I do with a NAT'd VPS that can only use 2.5% cpu?

ChicagoVPS, ColoCrossing / Velocity Servers, and Spamhaus

I don't know if anyone can do anything for me here. Maybe I just need to rant. I've just been very frustrated lately. For the second time in about a month my IP has gotten caught in one of Spamhaus' /17 blacklists. The first time I opened a ticket with CVPS and they said they were working with Spamhaus. A week or so later and my ticket was closed without comment but my IP was still blacklisted. I reopened it and they said they would just give me a new IP. Apparently they weren't able to make any progress with Spamhaus. So I get a new IP and now several weeks later that IP is now blacklisted by Spamhaus in another /17 blacklisting on ColoCrossing. I'm not sure who's to blame here. ColoCrossing is apparently a source of high amounts of spam and they don't do anything about it according to Spamhaus. However I've also heard that Spamhaus has some shady practices as well. I'm curious to know both sides to this story. Spamhaus seems hellbent on blacklisting ColoCrossing's entire range of IPs. This is from one of their SBL listings

We respect your work in stopping the abusers when notified, and we know that yours is a legitimate business facing problems and not a shady network provider willing to provide bulletproof hosting.

However, many other ISPs, even those way larger than ColoCrossing, face the same abuse problem as ColoCrossing and they manage to keep it under control. The amount of resources assigned to spammers in their networks is orders of magnitude smaller than ColoCrossing's.

We've already notified how almost all the abusers signing up on your network are using fake IDs and how vetting/confirming these IDs can limit the problem. Nothing happened on this side, and abusers are still allowed to sign up providing fake names and addresses.

We've also suggested several times how placing rate-limits to outbound SMTP traffic can severely affect the "bad apples'" ability to abuse your resources to send spam, but again we've seen no indication of anything being arranged in this regard.

We've been playing whack-a-mole with you for a long time now: it's simply not working nor there seem to be an interest to really solve the problem on your part.

As already announced way too many times we have no further interest in wasting our time playing this game: the amount of SBLs we've been opening for your networks is far beyond unacceptable (565 in the latest 6 months).

Our first concern is about our users and how your apparent lack of control over your network is harming their ability to properly keep their mailboxes clean; therefore I'm afraid we're going to advise our users to not accept email traffic coming from your networks until we see a serious indication that the problem is being taken care of.

Maybe it's the email provider's fault who are using Spamhaus' lists as blocklists rather than spam score modifiers. I don't know.

I've already opened another ticket with CVPS and I'm still waiting for a reply. I've been with CVPS since the beginning of 2012 and I've had very few issues with them. This blacklisting has only been an issue since 2015. Aside from this crap, their service seems to have been going downhill lately anyway. I've been thinking of switching to a different provider but it's impossible to find anything equivalent to what I'm getting for $7/mo. Quad core 3.5GHz CPU, 3 GB RAM, 100 GB storage, and 3 TB of bandwidth.

Nonetheless ever since VirtKick was introduced, I loved the idea. - However when they switched from open-source to a SaaS solution, I was completely turned off and ever since decided to integrate their interfaces with a backend like 'proxmox' (I'm not going to reveal what backend however, and since the opensource version of Virtkick also includes the interfaces - I'm within my rights to use it).

Over the last week it's been on its final stages - Basically I just finished the automation platform (Signup-> Account automatically created) in ClientExec's billing software.

Basically so far, you can create your own machines at any time (each 256mb of resources comes with it's own IP, so if you purchase a 2GB plan you will be able to create either 8 vps's or 1 vps with upto 8 IP's - You get the point. - You can delete the servers, reinstall them or Add/Remove Ip's)

The platform won't be a 'true-cloud solution' - DigitalOcean style cloud (no h/a, load balancers, etc) - and available at a lowend price (basically the same pricing on what current providers here will be offering).

It will however be similar to DigitalOcean's servers - Except with the ability to chose your own Virtualization on the creating process (So far between OVZ & KVM - I could implement Xen if it gets popularity)

It will have DNS integration & an Application Launcher (Launch from 50+ applications in a click, using turnkeys prebuilt templates for OVZ)

Now if i go though a VPN and get a new IP it does come up, which to me seems like they have blocked me from their support chat. Windows recovery problem

Hi,

I just wondered if anyone knows how to remove the windows recovery partition on windows 8.1. diskpart won't let me, nor will disk management or creating a recovery usb drive (no option to delete partition at the end). If I boot to a usb drive and use disk part there then it lets me delete it but then windows errors and won't boot. Does anyone know how to successfully remove the dam thing, my netbook only has a 32gb emmc and the recovery is taking up 10gb, when I could just be using a usb drive for that...

Looking for CPanel reseller plan

Note: the transition mentioned is scheduled for several months, starting with mid-May 2015, to test possible choices/do due diligence first.

I provide hosting to a couple dozens of sites. My current hosting provider is CrocWeb (R1 account). There's nothing wrong with the provider; however, since there can be controversy related to freedom of speech, I'd prefer to host those sites in Iceland, Netherlands, Sweden, you get the idea.

If there's well-established company providing hosting in the above areas at prices (and amount of resources) matching the mentioned (or surpassing it in terms of cost-performance), I would be glad to make use of it.

Well-established in this current context means 3+ years in business, mostly positive users reviews, good hosting quality. There will be quite few support requests, I handle most of hosted sites' maintenance tasks myself. SSH access (for maintenance/backup only) would also be a good feature.

Thanks in advance. I will not discuss the mentioned controversy. The sites content doesn't contradict typical hosters' ToS/AUP guidelines. Sites are low to medium traffic and don't cause too much load.

Unhappy experience

I want to test an application so I try meanservers.com's KVM for its budget. When I finished the purchase they let me upload my ID card image so I give up and let them refund. But waiting two days, I cannot see any reply in the ticket. So I submit a controversy on PayPal. Then I go travelling so I forget this thing. When I got home I found that they let me cancel the controversy or I couldn't.get the refund. But it was too late for me to see this request. So the refund was finally missing. I don't think a refund can lead us be unhappy, but I just don't like the way which they did. But since then, I learned that a popular provider is necessary because most people talks about it and we can know its service or others. - I'm not a native English speaker so miss the grammar error in this post.

My impressions on hubiC

Hello everyone!

I'd like to share with you my first impressions (and I'd like to stress again the word FIRST) that I had by using the cloud/backup service offered by OVH: hubiC. I want to do so in order to know what you people think of it and if you agree with my impressions.

When early this month they reduced the price from 10€ to 5€ for 10TB of online storage (monthly subscription) I simply couldn't resist. I decided to try the service for the first time and I went for the first month (instead of the annual subscription), just to try it out.

Indeed, I needed a cloud/backup service to upload all my data and I figured 10TB would suffice.

Let's start by explaining where I use it: I have two dedi (one with 100Mbps unmetered and one with 500Mbps unmetered). I use on both Ubuntu server x64.

hubiC is used mainly for two purposes: cloud or/and backup. There is subtle but important difference: when you use the cloud you rely on a synchronization of files. You can see the files in all your devices and in the website. When you upload something from a computer, also all the other computer will download and store locally that file. The backup system is a pure and simple copy (upload) of your file(s)/folder(s) into hubiC. You don't need to synchronize them and by default the backed up files will not be downloaded in other computers sharing the same hubiC account.

Whether you need to simply backup your files or not it's up to you. Many of us here needs large space to save their data (snapshots of OSs, etc.) and the backup is the best and easiest solution.

Let's get now to the first impressions. I've using the service for about 3 days. I've used both the cloud and the backup (though not very much the last one).

Tools I used: hubiCfuse and the official hubiC application for Linux.

hubiCfuse: extremely unreliable. The idea is great: you can mount your cloud space and see it as an external hard drive. This way you don't have to download files locally. Unfortunately, operations (renaming, deleting, moving, etc.) are extremely slow. Copy of files is totally unreliable: I copied 80GB and it ended up "segmenting" 40GB somewhere, while the others 40GB were not even complete. I read online that this is more of an issue with the platform used by hubiC than the application itself.

hubiC for Linux: this certainly works better and in a more stable way. It has lots of commands you can use both for backups and cloud. As of now I only used it for the backup option. Perhaps the only downside I've witnessed is the huge amount of resources that the mono framework needs to make hubiC executing backups.

For now I will not provide benchmarks of speed or anything, it's too soon and I need to know more about it. However, in a week or two I certainly share a more detailed experience.

Conclusions as of now: don't use hubiC for the cloud. It's quite buggy and slow. Files are not always well uploaded and you'll get errors many times. If you however need a huge online backup space then perhaps hubiC is what you are searching for.

Is it possible to create a bonding adapter on an openvz guest?

I'm working on doing some line bonding by using a combination of tun adapters (via OpenVPN) and ifenslave with balance-rr mode. I'm trying to set this up in an openvz VPS and are failing so I'm wondering if this is even possible on openvz or if my guest is simply missing the bonding module (and I need to open a support ticket for that).

Tun interfaces are defined:
