Disable EXIM/Postfix - still use sendmail to use a smarthost

Hi All Geeks,

I have a pretty Lean Debian 7 (64bit) box, running VESTACP, that serves some high traffic sites, and for the performance and security I have [b][u]EXIM disabled[/u][/b].

Can I still configure sendmail to use a smarthost (mandrillapp ) and shoot mails without any exim/postfix running? If Yes, will in this way, the PHP Mail() function will be able to send mails from my VPS hosted websites/Wordpress to the outside world ?
