Best way to encrypt my windows 7?

I want to encrypt my windows 7 ultimate in case my laptop is lost or stolen, and I'm wondering what's the best encryption tool out there?

Is it safe to use bitlocker, or maybe VeraCrypt?

Or any other suggestions?
